No King , No Queen



Not a Royal or a HRH Oliver Cromwell rose amongst the East Anglican gentry but more significant was his religious Puritanism.  An MP, he was in the front line with the outbreak of the Civil War in 1642.

Cromwell became a cavlary
commander rising within the New Model Army that defeated Charles.  He headed calls for the King's trial and subsequent execution in 1649.  Cromwell was appointed Lord protector.

*Cromwell turned down the crown when parliament offered it to him in 1657
